VILLA ATHENA
VILLA ATHENA
A glass box inside of a greek temple. The design for Villa Athena in the Greek Isles pairs the elegance of classical order with the purity of contemporary minimalism. The kitchen, bathrooms, wardrobes and more are concealed behind the black marble towers and planes. Cut into a cliffside the residence features a single story continuous arcade at the back of the house that is split by the central staircase. The front facade features two double height arcades reminiscent of the proportions of the Temple Athena Nike at the Acropolis. The infinity pool meets the open spaces on three sides punctuating the minimalism and reflecting the skies over the sea. The execution of the black marble plane is inspired by Mies Van Der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. A modern and timeless architectural gesture that balances simplicity and formality on the fulcrum of beauty.
