VILLA STATUARIO

VILLA STATUARIO

Designed for an Italian artist and clad extensively in Statuary marble the building appears to have been carved from single massive block of stone.  Only in Italy could the luxurious marble be a 'local material'.  The monumental sculptural structure features two spectacular open concave volumes, one adjacent to the artists painting and sculpture studio and one viewed from the dining room.  The upper floor also features a media room and five bedrooms including a master overlooking the pool.  Metal fins on the second floor serve to obscure the view in from the ground level while still allowing views out from the interior.  The main floor is an open loft style designed for family and entertaining with columns designed as a spatial sculpture and an interior staircase with a forced perspective.  The two exterior stairs employ a reiteration of the privacy screen and create yet another art element wrapping the facade.
